WELCOME TO JOY THERAPY

When you invite a Joy Therapist into your home, school or daycare, you are guaranteed to meet a caring, knowledgeable and passionate practitioner who is 100% committed to helping your child. We have all sorts of wonderful qualifications and use a variety of methods and frameworks to do our work (all evidence-based of course!), but we know that what’s most important to you is helping your child become the best they can be.  We pride ourselves on making this happen in not only a functional but also fun way, so that we quickly earn trust, make strong connections and help your child reach their full potential.

We love seeing children thrive, and sometimes we have to be just a little bit silly to help make that happen!

THE EVOLUTION OF JOY THERAPY

Joy Therapy started out as Melbourne Speech Pathology way back in 2007, when Janelle was living in St Kilda.  She was newly married, had no children of her own, and was really excited to put into practice all the best bits she’d learnt from working for other therapists, whilst giving it her own flavour.

As Janelle’s belly started to grow (she was pregnant with her first child, not just eating too much!), so did her caseload.  Until, not longer after establishing her own practice, she had to hire another speech pathologist to ensure all the families would be well looked after in the lead up to, and after, her child’s impending birth.  She had worked hard to establish her practice and wanted to stay involved with the families, providing continuous care and support.

Now, in 2019, and three children later, Janelle’s team has expanded to include 6 full time Speech Pathologists, 2 Occupational Therapists and an Office Administrator.

The name, Melbourne Speech Pathology, had already changed once, to include a shift in lifestyle for Janelle.  With a move to the Mornington Peninsula, the business because known as Melbourne & Peninsula Speech Pathology.  Whilst the name says it like it is, it became too long and forgettable.

So now, with the inclusion of occupational therapy, another change was inevitable.  And why not include joy in the name?  Janelle derives so much joy from children – the ones she works with, her own, random kids at the park – and she instills this joy into every part of the business.  She’s been careful to only hire therapists who share a similar love and joy for what they do, and as a team, they have a lot of fun!

And that’s how Joy Therapy was born.
