Joy Paediatric Therapy Services is a private clinic. Fees are payable for therapy and assessment sessions (all of our fees are inclusive of travel)

We are registered for Medicare rebates, Helping Children with Autism (HCWA), Better Start and the National Disability Insurance Scheme.

There is information on rebates and funding options below.  We will help and guide you with what rebates and funding programs you may be eligible for.

Consultations with Paediatricians, Occupational therapist, psychologist, teachers (for example) via email or phone calls as well as short progress reports on request for no charge.

Funding options for Speech Pathology and Occupational Therapy

It can be difficult to know what funding options you can access for your child’s therapy. Please see below for helpful links. We are registered for Helping Children with Autism, Better Start and National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) as well as Medicare. Please don’t hesitate to call if you need additional advice.

National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)

NDIS is a new national funding scheme. As an insurance scheme, the NDIS takes a lifetime approach therefore if your child is eligible for NDIS they will receive funding on an annual basis. NDIS is investing in people with disability early to improve their outcomes later in life.

We are an approved provider for the NDIS. To determine if you are eligible please go to the NDIS website

Chronic Disease Management Plan

The Chronic Diseases Management Plan (CDM) is a Medicare-rebated funding program for people who have chronic medical conditions (classified as a condition that has been present for at least 6 months).

It consists of a maximum of 5 rebates per calendar year for Allied Health services (ie. Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy and Psychology).

Better Start Funding Package (FAHCSIA)

The Better Start Funding Package is a Federal Government initiative to assist families with children diagnosed with specific disabilities to access early intervention services. Children are eligible for the Better Start program if diagnosed with one of the following disabilities:

  • Cerebral palsy
  • Deafblindness
  • Down syndrome, including mosaic Down syndrome
  • Fragile X syndrome with full mutation.
  • Hearing impairment
  • Sight impairment
  • Prader-Willi syndrome
  • Williams syndrome
  • Angelman syndrome
  • Kabuki syndrome
  • Smith-Magenis syndrome
  • CHARGE syndrome
  • Cornelia de Lange syndrome
  • Rett’s Disorder
  • Cri du Chat syndrome; or
  • Microcephaly

Children with an eligible diagnosis must register for Better Start before they turn 6 years old. A child will have until they turn 7 to access funding.

Children registered with Better Start can access up to $12,000 (maximum $6,000 per year) to pay for early intervention services.

Better Start for Children with disabilities Medicare Rebates

Medicare rebates are available for the early diagnosis and treatment of children with an eligible disability.

The initiative is delivered in a similar way as the Helping Children with Autism program. Children under 13 years with both an eligible disability and autism or other pervasive developmental disorder can access either the:

  • Helping Children with Autism program, or
  • Better Start for Children with Disability initiative

Helping Children with Autism (HCWA) Initiative

The Helping Children with Autism package (HCWA) is a federal government initiative to assist families with children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) to access early intervention services.

If your child is between 0 – 6 years, they are eligible to access this funding through Autism Victoria (up to $6000 per financial year; total of $12,000). The funding can be accessed up until your child’s 7th birthday (however funding must be approved before your child’s 6th birthday) This funding can only be used with approved providers.

Mental Health Plan

The Mental Health Plan (MHP) entitles you to Medicare rebates for up to 10 individual or 10 group appointments with  psychologists and occupational therapists.

If you or your child have a mental health condition or a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum, Anxiety Disorder or ADD / ADHD and if this condition is being managed by your GP or Mental Health Provider you may be eligible for a MHP.

Private Health Insurance

Please check with your health provider to check if you are covered for speech pathology/occupational therapy.

Helping Children with Autism Medicare Rebates

Medicare Rebates exist for the early diagnosis and treatment of children with autism or any other pervasive developmental disorder (PDD).  This Medicare rebated scheme provides 4 sessions for assessment and 20 sessions for therapy with Speech Pathologists, Occupational Therapists or Psychologists. This funding does not renew each year and can be used for children up to the age of 13 years.
