INTENSIVE LITERACY PROGRAM

This program assists children who experience difficulties in their literacy skills.   Due to the intensive nature of the program, and explicit teaching of the underlying skills necessary for literacy, children make great gains over the week. The Intensive Literacy Program is run in the child’s home with 5 to 10 hours intervention over the week.  Private health insurance (extras) can be used to cover part of the cost of the program)

PROGRAM CONTENT

Student’s literacy skills are assessed by Speech Pathologist prior to the intervention week
Speech Pathologist sets individual goals and designs a tailored program to suit your child’s needs.   Specific areas of difficulties noted from previous reports, information from teachers, as well as the assessment, guide the planning of your child’s structured program
Student has either 2 x 1 hour sessions per day for five days with a one to two hour break in between, or 1 hour per day for 5 days.  Your child is set small homework tasks each day.
A range of methods and resources are used to target the underlying skills that are essential for successful literacy skills. These skills include:

  • Auditory discrimination of sounds
  • Sound – letter correspondence
  • Phonological awareness
  • Single word reading and single word spelling
  • Reading comprehension /text writing
At the end of the final session your child is reassessed to determine the level of success achieved

A report is provided with recommendations and strategies for teachers and parents to continue the child’s awesome reading and writing progress!

Full intensive – 10 hours of therapy, initial assessment and summary report $1700

Half program – 5 hours of therapy, initial assessment and summary report $900
